How to Start a Children’s Enrichment Business
(When You Don’t Even Know Where to Start)

If you’ve ever watched a group of preschoolers try to balance on one foot… or march across a room like enthusiastic baby dinosaurs… and thought:

“Okay but HOW do people actually turn this into a business?”

You’re in the right place.

Starting a children’s enrichment business can feel like trying to put together a 1,000-piece puzzle with no picture on the box.

Fun? Yes.
Chaotic? Also yes.

But here’s the good news:
You don’t need to figure it all out alone.
And it’s honestly a lot simpler than people make it sound.

Let’s break this down in a totally doable way.

Step 1: Pick Your “Flavor” of Enrichment

Kids’ enrichment is a whole world. You can choose:

  • Movement & fitness (Power Play, yoga, dance)

  • Music & rhythm

  • Mindfulness & emotional regulation

  • Creative arts

  • STEM-based exploration

  • A combo of all of the above

But the real question is:

What lights YOU up?

Because your joy = their joy.

And yes, you can start even if you’re not a “yoga person,” or “a dancer,” or “super crafty.”
Kids don’t need perfect. They need energy, structure, and someone who knows how to keep them safe and engaged.

Step 2: Decide Who You Want to Serve

There are a LOT of paths here, and one of the biggest mistakes new instructors make is trying to do them all at once.

Here are the most common (and easiest) places to start:

✔️ Daycares & Preschools

This is where most instructors start because:

  • instant audience

  • built-in schedule

  • easy advertising

  • directors LOVE consistent, well-structured programs

And yes, they really do want you there.
Directors are desperate for high-quality, low-prep classes.

✔️ Private classes (parks, community spaces, church gyms, studios)

A little harder to market, but great once you have word-of-mouth.

✔️ After-school programs

Higher energy, bigger groups, more chaos… but also fun.

✔️ Parent & me classes

Perfect for weekends or mornings.

If you’re new, start with daycares. It’s the easiest pathway to consistency and revenue.

Step 3: Create a Simple, Repeatable Class Structure

This is where most people panic.

“What do I even DO for 30 minutes with tiny humans??”

But trust me, you do not need Pinterest-worthy activities or 297 props.

What you need is one magical thing:

A routine.

Kids adore routine.
Teachers adore routine.
Directors adore routine.
Your brain will adore routine.

A solid class structure might look like:

  1. Welcome & warm-up

  2. Skill of the day

  3. Movement game

  4. Cool-down

  5. Stickers, high-fives, stamps, any reward.... (mandatory)

Once you have a structure, every class becomes easier than the last.

Step 4: Figure Out What You Need to Get Started

(Spoiler: not much)

Here’s the beginner-friendly checklist:

  • A background check

  • Liability insurance (super cheap)

  • A playlist

  • A few basic props (scarves, cones, beanbags, or honestly, nothing)

  • A curriculum or program structure

  • A plan for reaching out to centers

  • A reliable brain and a good pair of shoes

If you’re overthinking it, you’re doing it wrong.
Truly, most people make this 200 times harder than it needs to be.

Step 5: Price Your Classes (the part everyone avoids)

Here’s the truth:
Your pricing depends on your area, but a typical range is:

✔️ $50–$90 per 30-minute class

per classroom

Teach 4 classrooms in a morning?
You’ve made $200–$360 before lunch.

Run a small schedule of 10–15 classes per week?

You just built a part-time business that earns good income.

There is so much earning potential here, especially once you’re in multiple centers.

Step 6: Reach Out to Centers or other Clients (the not-scary way)

Most people imagine this like a cold sales call nightmare.

But directors are humans. Busy humans.
And they love:

  • structure

  • professionalism

  • programs that make their kids happy

A simple message works:

“Hi! I run a children’s movement program and would love to offer a free demo.
Here’s what it includes…”

You are not bothering them.
You’re solving a problem they already have.

Step 7: Build Relationships, Not Just a Schedule

Your success will come from:

  • being reliable

  • communicating clearly

  • showing up prepared

  • being kind to teachers

  • making kids light up

If the kids love it, the teachers rave about it.
If the teachers rave, the director keeps you around.
If the director keeps you around, your business grows.

It’s a cycle of joy.
